Drakenstein Stud’s five time G1 winning stallion Duke Of Marmalade came up with his sixth individual G1 winner when his four-year-old daughter Temple Grafin won the G1 Jonsson Workwear Garden Province Stakes (1600m) at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday.
Bred by Fran Cowe, the Glen Kotzen trained filly stormed home under jockey Keagen De Melo to score by nearly three-parts of a length, while accounting for defending champion Celtic Sea.
Temple Grafin, fourth in the 2019 Garden Province Stakes and third in January’s G1 Bidvest Majorca Stakes, has now won four times with Saturday’s win taking the filly’s earnings to R918250.
Out of the Greys Inn mare Inner Temple, Temple Grafin has now won graded races at two, three and four, having captured the G3 Gasgasi FM Debutante at two and G3 Umzimkhulu Stakes at three.
She is one of 44 stakes winners for Cartier Champion Duke Of Marmalade, who is also responsible for the G1 winners Big Orange, Nutan, Simple Verse, Sound Of Freedom and Star Of Seville.
The champion son of Danehill has ten lots on offer at the upcoming Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale- including a half-brother (Lot 22) to Equus Champion Sprinter Kasimir, a colt (Lot99) out of G3 Prix du Cap winner Croc Valley and a colt (Lot351) out of dual G1 winning champion Rat Burana.
