Smart debut winner for Vercingetorix

16th Oct 2022

Maine Chance Farms’ sensational sire Vercingetorix again made news at Turffontein on Saturday when the champion son of Silvano came up with a good looking debut winner in the form of The Mauritian.
The latter, a three-year-old gelding from the Crawford yard, made the perfect start to his racing career when running out a ready winner of the first race at Turffontein, the #ThisIsRacing Welcomes You Maiden Plate (1200m).
Under an inform Kabelo Matsunyane, The Mauritian powered away to score as he liked by nearly two and a half lengths.
Bred by Lammerskraal Stud, The Mauritian is out of the Western Winter daughter Blizzard Belle.
Saturday’s debut winner was originally a R1 100 000 buy from the 2021 National Yearling Sale.
His sire Vercingetorix had another wonderful day at Turffontein on Saturday with The Mauritian one of three winners for his sire on the day.

Vercingetorix’s second success on Saturday came when his daughter Paschals Samore ran out a convincing winner of the sixth race, and Vercingetorix claimed his third win on the day when his talented son Forever Mine accounted for a high-class field to make all and win the seventh race on the card.

Runner up on the South African General Sires List last season, Vercingetorix has an excellent draft on offer at the upcoming Cape Racing Ready To Run & 2YO Unbroken Sale. His string includes a half-brother (Lot 79) to the unbeaten Le Morne, a filly (Lot84) whose stakes placed dam is a full-sister to the G2 winning dam of Princess Calla, and a colt (Lot100) from the same female line as Arc winners Alpinista and Zarkava.
