Smart double for Gimmethegreenlight

18th Nov 2022

Varsfontein Stud’s inform champion sire Gimmethegreenlight was responsible for two very smart looking winners at the Vaal on Thursday afternoon.
Not only did Gimmethegreenlight’s three-year-old son Tsar Bomba impress at the Vaal Classic Track on Thursday, another three-year-old by the sire, Eye Of The Prophet, stamped his own big race claims when victorious in the sixth race on Thursday.
An impressive winner on debut, the Johan Janse Van Vuuren trained Tsar Bomba made it two wins from three starts when running out a smooth winner of Thursday’s TAB 4Racing App MR 95 Handicap (1450m).
Under log-leading jockey Keagan De Melo, the gelded three-year-old simply outclassed his rivals, as Tsar Bomba was geared down to register a comprehensive three and a quarter length success.
Bred by part-owner Laurence Wernars, Tsar Bomba is out of the Ideal World mare Work Ethic and he looks another exciting three-year-old for his inform sire.
Gimmethegreenlight is also the sire of Eye Of The Prophet, whose trainer holds classic aspirations for next season.
The Paul Matchett trained sophomore showed considerable courage when fending off some hard knocking older rivals to claim Thursday’s Betway Summer Cup 26 November MR 80 Divided Handicap (1600m). Under Rachel Venniker, the Gimmethegreenlight gelding pulled away in the closing stages to win by a length and a half, with Eye Of The Prophet having now won twice from just three starts.
Bred by Patricia Devine Investments, Eye Of The Prophet is out of the Fort Wood mare Umlilo.
South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2020-2021, Gimmethegreenlight is also the sire of eye catching recent Listed Laisserfaire Stakes winner Kwinta’s Light.
