Smart two-year-old winner for Vercingetorix

23rd Dec 2022

Maine Chance Farms’ prominent stallion Vercingetorix looks to have another smart filly on his hands in the form of promising two-year-old Golden Sickle.
The latter made a smashing start to her racing career when making a winning debut at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Thursday afternoon.
Trained by Justin Snaith, Golden Sickle was smartly away in Thursday’s #Destination Cape Racing Maiden Juvenile Plate (1000m), and overcame greeness to win a smart race.
Under Richard Fourie, the Vercingetorix filly quickened up smartly in the closing stages to win by a length and a quarter.
Bred by Varsfontein Stud, Golden Sickle (a R700 000 yearling buy) is out of the Captain Al mare Victorian Secret.
Bred on the same cross as former G1 Allan Robertson Championship victress Vernichey, Golden Sickle is the second two-year-old winner, following fellow debut winner Mrs Geriatrix, for her outstanding sire Vercingetorix this season.
Vercingetorix is currently runner up on the South African General Sires List for 2022-2023, with his runners having already banked more than R5.884 million in stakes this season.
