Sunday four timer for Rafeef

23rd February 2026

Ridgemont’s star stallion Rafeef had another big day at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Sunday.
The son of legendary sire Redoute’s Choice was responsible for no fewer than four winners on Sunday, with Rafeef’s progeny winning races one, three, nine and eleven respectively.

Rafeef’s two-year-old daughters Shezaripper and Sparkling Star both made eye catching debuts on Sunday when the pair finished first and second respectively in the Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Welcomes You Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies) (1000m).

The well bred pair settled down to fight out the finish, with the James Crawford trained, Luyolo Mxothwa ridden Shezaripper prevailing by a long neck.
Bred by Geoff van Lear, Shezaripper races for the ASSM Racing Syndicate.

Sunday’s winner, who is bred on the same Rafeef/Var cross as such G1 winning stallions as Master Archie and Thunderstruck, is out of the Var mare Schippers. Shezaripper was a R750 000 buy from the 2025 Premier Yearling Sale.

Rafeef’s second success on Sunday came when his three-year-old son Fast Train won the Lucky Fish New Fortune Maiden Plate (1200m). Under JP Van Der Merwe, the Patrick Kruyer trained gelding stormed home to shed his maiden by three-parts of a length.
Bred by Narrow Creek Stud, Fast Train had finished second in two of his only four starts prior to Sunday’s win.
Owned by Greg and Gina Bortz, the son of Rafeef is out of the Windrush mare Hungry Heart.

His inform sire struck again when Rafeef gelding Black Eagle won the Ready Steady Go Syndicate Middle Stakes (1200m).
The Vaughan Marshall trained three-year-old was always prominent in running, and under Sean Veale, dug down deep to just defeat runner up Raven Black by a short-head.

Bred by Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm in partnership with Mr and Mrs Amm, Black Eagle has won three of just nine starts.
Owned by Hollywood Racing, the gelding is out of the Jet Master mare Pan Amm.

The unstoppable Rafeef had yet another winner on Sunday in the form Spirit. The latter won the eleventh and final race at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Sunday for Piet and Elbert Steyn and Keagan De Melo.
Three-year-old Spirit stayed on gamely to hold off a low flying Objet D’ Art and win the Hollywoodbets Bright Future Class 4 (1200m) by a neck.
Owned by the Wernars Family in partnership with Mukund Gujadhur, the gelded Spirit was bred by Narrow Creek Stud.
