Drakenstein Stud’s new stallion Gold Standard hails from an exceptional South African family, and the son of Trippi received another boost to his catalogue page at Turffontein this past Saturday.
Veteran galloper Storm Warning, whose champion third Olympic Duel is granddam of Gold Standard himself, made it win number ten and pushed his earnings to over R1.1 million when landing a middle stakes for trainer Fabian Habib and jockey Chase Maujean.
The remarkably tough nine year old dug down deep to prevail by a head over Tapit son Tapenzee, while giving the runner up no less than 8kgs!
A son of Jet Master, Storm Warning’s previous nine successes included the 2014 Listed Aquanaut Handicap and he has also finished second or third in four graded races.
Storm Warning is out of G3 Jacaranda Handicap winner Olympic Storm –a full-sister to Equus Champion Thundering Star, and his second dam (a full-sister to G1 Daily News 2000 hero Flying Duel) is seven time stakes winning Lightning Duel.
Winner of the G2 Selangor Cup, Gold Standard is the only son of Drakenstein’s champion sire Trippi at stud in South Africa. Trippi, whose representatives last season included the G1 performers Lobo’s Legend, Trip To Heaven and White River, is also responsible for current 3yo sensation Chimichuri Run, the brilliant winner of Saturday’s G3 Spring Spree Stakes.
Gold Standard is standing his first season at stud in 2018 for a fee of R15 000.
