Maine Chance Farms’ multiple G1 winning Silvano horse Vercingetorix has made an explosive start to his stud career and the former Equus Champion was responsible for a third first crop stakes winner when his talented son Hooves Of Troy won the Listed Dahlia Plate at Fairview on Friday.

Runner up to unbeaten Vercingetorix colt Viking Moon in the Listed East Cape Nursery at his previous start, the Gavin Smith trained Hooves Of Troy made it win number two, from only four starts, when landing the Dahlia Plate by half a length.

Bred by Hartley SA, Hooves Of Troy, who has finished first or second in each of his four starts, was ridden to victory in Friday’s 1200m race by Muzi Yeni.

His G1 Jebel Hatta winning sire Vercingetorix, who himself never raced at two, has now been responsible for nine first crop winners, with his tally including G3 Godolphin Barb Stakes winner African Warrior and the aforementioned Viking Moon.

South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire by both individual winners and prize money (at the time of writing), Vercingetorix has eight lots on the 2019 KZN Yearling Sale.
