Cheveley Stud’s very exciting young stallion Wylie Hall was responsible for a third first crop winner on Thursday when his two-year-old son De La Cruz made a winning debut at the Vaal.

Bred by Mayesh Chetty, the Ashley Fortune trained De La Cruz showed a smart turn of foot when kicking away from his rivals to score a first out win by 1.75 lengths, when landing a maiden juvenile plate over 1000m on Thursday.
De La Cruz is a third winner for his multiple G1 winning sire, following Storm Bird Stakes winner Twilight Moon and debut winner Wily Lass (her sire’s very first runner).
Wylie Hall has now been represented by seven runners, with four having either won or finished in the money.
A son of recently deceased champion sire Redoute’s Choice (also sire of top class stallions Snitzel, Stratum and Not A Single Doubt), Wylie Hall is very closely related to brilliant two-year-old Yourdeel, a leading fancy for Saturday’s G1 Courtesy Ford Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes (a race won previously by another of Wylie Hall’s top class relatives, Melody Belle).
First past the post in the 2014 G1 Vodacom Durban July, Wylie Hall won or placed in nine graded/listed races with his victories including the 2014 G1 President’s Champions Challenge and 2013 G1 SA Derby.
The half-brother to top sprinter Absolute Champion has six lots on offer at the 2019 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, which takes place in Germiston from April 24th to 26th.
