Ascot Stud’s inform stallion Global View had a memorable day on Saturday, when the son of Galileo supplied a trio of winners.
Star of the show was the Global View sired champion Dave The King, who picked up the third G1 win of his career when he won the G1 Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge (1600m) at Hollywoodbets Greyville.
South Africa’s reigning Horse Of The Year, Dave The King had won the Gold Challenge last year before going on to claim the G1 The HKJC Champions Cup. The five-year-old recently made a winning return to racing, and Dave The King was sent off a 9/4 shot for Saturday’s R2 000 000 contest.
Under Callan Murray, the Mike and Mathew De Kock trained star slipped through down the inside to get the better of long-time pacemaker Oriental Charm and win by a neck.
Bred by the Gary Player Stud (Pty) Ltd, Dave The King races for Messrs L M Nestadt & G J Player & Ralphs Racing (Pty) Ltd (Nom: Miss K Ralphs).
Dave The King, who is out of the Jet Master mare Touche, has won eight of 25 starts for earnings of R5 782 394.
His dual graded stakes winning sire Global View also enjoyed success in Zimbabwe on Saturday where his sons River Power and Ideal View won races four and six respectively.
From the same family as breed shaping sire Storm Bird, Global View shares his legendary sire Galileo with Friday’s G1 Betfred Coronation Cup winner Jan Brueghel, as well as Frankel and Australia. The latter pair are the sires of Friday’s G1 Betfred Oaks winner Minnie Hauk and Saturday’s G1 Betfred Derby winner Lambourn respectively.
