Back to back feature race wins for Vercingetorix filly

8th Jun 2025

Maine Chance Farms’ star stallion Vercingetorix is set to be crowned South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2024-2025.
Silvano’s champion son enjoyed more feature race success at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday.

Vercingetorix’s two-year-old daughter Quickstepgal made it back to back feature race wins when she won the Listed Ridgemont Devon Air Stakes (14000m).

Trained by Tienie Prinsloo, Quickstepgal showed her class in Saturday’s R200 000 contest.

Under Kabelo Matsunyane, Quickstepgal defied the top weight of 60kgs to romp home to score by more than two and a half lengths.

The filly has won three of four starts, with Quickstepgal having captured the G3 Tote Strelitzia Stakes back in April.

Bred by Greenacres Trust, Quickstepgal races for Rakesh Singh.

A R450 000 purchase from the 2024 KZN Yearling Sale, Quickstepgal has a full-sister on offer at this year’s KZN auction.

Saturday’s winner is out of the Jet Master mare Victoriana and is thus bred on the same Vercingetorix/Jet Master cross as top-class performers African Warrior, Padre Pio and Rascallion.

Quickstepgal’s outstanding sire went close to enjoying G1 success on Saturday when Vercingetorix’s G1 Hollywoodbets Durban July winning son Oriental Charm ran second in the G1 Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge. Another son of Vercingetorix, Gladatorian, finished third in the Gold Challenge, with Gladatorian having won the G2 Independent On Saturday Drill Hall Stakes on his penultimate start.

The prolific Vercingetorix is also the sire of Callmegetrix and Minogue, who ran second and third respectively in Saturday’s G2 HKJC World Pool Stakes.
