Maine Chance Farms’ high-class stallion Querari had a pair of winners at the Vaal on Thursday.
The champion son of Oasis Dream was responsible for the winners of the first and seventh races on Thursday, with the races won by Querari fillies Art Nouveau and Key Element respectively.
The Tony Peter trained Art Nouveau got off the mark in convincing style when she won the 4Racing Welcomes You Work Riders Maiden Plate (1700m). Under Phenisile Mongqawa, the three-year-old stormed home to break her maiden by just under two lengths.
Bred by Birch Bros, Art Nouveau is out of the Dynasty mare Art Deco.
Querari’s second winner on Thursday came when his four-year-old daughter Key Element won the Summer Cup 29 November FM 92 Handicap (F and M) over 1600m.
Under Philasande Mxoli, the Paul Matchett trained filly stayed on strongly to post a near three-parts of a length win.
Bred by Boland Stud, Key Element has won five times with the filly having banked more than R420 000 in stakes.
Thursday’s winner is out of the Count Dubois mare Surefire and is thus bred on the same Querari/Count Dubois cross as high-class sprinter Pinnacle Peak, G1 Thekwini Stakes runner up Melliflora, and Listed Christmas Handicap runner up Kazaar.
Leading Sire of 2YOs in 2018-2019 , Querari will be represented by his son Cruise Control in Saturday’s G2 Golden Horse Sprint, and his unbeaten daughter Comic Relief in the G1 Allan Robertson Championship.
