Thursday double for Silvano

14th December 2018

Maine Chance Farms’ evergreen champion sire Silvano continues to throw high class racehorses, with his current stars headed by unbeaten G2 Dingaans winner Hawwaam.

The triple G1 winning son of Lomitas was at it again on Thursday, when Silvano enjoyed a quick-fire double at the Vaal.

Beautifully bred 3yo filly Blossom provided Silvano with his first win on Thursday when that Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein bred sophomore romped home, at the second time of asking, to shed her maiden by an emphatic 5.3 lengths over 1600m.
Trained by Ormond Ferraris, and ridden to victory by Gavin Lerena, Blossom (who is bred on the same Silvano/Tiger Ridge cross as G1 winning filly Orchid Island) had been third on debut when beaten less than a length over 1450 metres.

Her sire’s second winner at the Vaal on Thursday came when his Johan Janse Van Vuuren trained daughter Believe Me justified 4-1 tote favouritism when powering home from off the pace to land a FM 68 handicap over 1400m by a neck.

Now a three time winner, the lightly raced 4yo Believe Me has now won two in a row, with the Maine Chance Farms bred filly having scored over 1400m at the Vaal at her previous start.

A multiple champion sire, whose 20 individual G1 winners are headed by the July winners Bold Silvano, Heavy Metal, Power King and Marinaresco, Silvano has eight lots on offer at January’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale including a colt (Lot 137) out of G1 SA Oaks winner Pine Princess, and a half-brother (Lot 202) to G2 SA Nursery winner William The Silent.
