Thursday double for Vercingetorix

21st April 2023

Maine Chance Farms’ outstanding sire Vercingetorix continues to churn out winners all over South Africa, and the champion son of Silvano was at it again on Thursday when Vercingetorix was responsible for two winners at the Vaal.

Vercingetorix gelding The Mauritian made it two wins from just six starts when storming home to win Thursday’s sixth race on the eight race card.
Under Kabelo Matsunyane, the Brett Crawford trained gelding hit the front full of running and drew clear to the land the WSB Premier’s Champions Challenge 29 April MR 80 Handicap (1200m) two and a quarters.

Three-year-old The Mauritian, who had run third in the Listed Secretariat Stakes earlier in the season, was bred by Lammerskraal Stud.

Out of the Western Winter mare Blizzard Belle, The Mauritian was originally a R1 100 000 buy from the 2021 National Yearling Sale.

His sire ended the day on a good note when Vercingetorix filly Midnight Crystal ran out a courageous winner of the eighth and final race on Thursday.

The Sean Tarry trained three-year-old dug down deep to score a narrow, one neck winner of the Next Vaal Racemeeting Tuesday 25 April FM 74 Handicap (F&M) (1500m).

Bred by Henham Stud, Midnight Crystal has now won three times and two of her last three starts.

The filly is out of the Galileo mare Sehaba and she was a R300 000 buy from the 2021 National Yearling Sale.
