Thursday double for Vercingetorix

1st October 2026

Maine Chance Farms’ multiple champion sire Vercingetorix has made a flying start to the 2026-2027 season and he struck again when supplying a pair of winners at the Vaal on Thursday.
Vercingetorix gelding Kings Mountain made a huge impression when he romped home to a facile debut win on Thursday.

The Mike and Mathew De Kock  trained three-year-old turned the Racing240 Maiden Plate (1200m) into a one-horse race.
Under Keagan De Melo, KIngs Mountain justified favouritism when scorching home to win by an emphatic seven and a half lengths, and he looks a very smart sort in the making.

Bred by part-owner Laurence Wernars, Kings Mountain is out of the smart Orpen mare Kay Tee Perry.

KIngs Mountain races for Mukund Gujadhur, Harry Willson and the Wernars Family.

Vercingetorix supplied the De Kock yard with another winner on Thursday when his beautifully bred daughter Feast Of Berries won the Betway FM 82 Handicap (F & M) (1600m).
Under a strong ride from Muzi Yeni, the blue blooded three-year-old fought on gamely to win Thursday’s contest by just over a length.

Bred by Lammerskraal Stud, Feast Of Berries, who races for Wilgerbosdrift, has won two of just four starts.

A R3 000 000 buy from the 2025 National Yearling Sale, Feast Of Berries is out of the top-class Western Winter mare Redberry Lane, who won five times including the G1 Garden Province Stakes.

Once again on top of the South African General Sires premiership, Vercingetorix has two sons set to take part in Saturday’s G2 Betway Joburg Spring Challenge.
