Maine Chance Farms’ prominent resident sire Vercingetorix’s great season continued at Turffontein on Tuesday night when Vercingetorix’s daughter Gallic Princess ran out a convincing winner of the G3 WSB Live Blackjack Tommy Hotspur Stakes (1000m) over a smart field of sprinters.

Runner up in the G3 Lebelo Sprint last time out, the Candice Dawson trained mare was better off at the weights with Lebelo conqueror Anna Capri and duly turned the tables on that grey rival in Tuesday evening’s sprint.
Under Keagan De Melo, Gallic Princess raced in midfield for much of the early stages before storming home down the centre of the track and win by two and a quarter lengths.

Bred by The Alchemy, Gallic Princess has now won six of 24 starts for earnings of over R650 000.

Third in last season’s G1 South African Fillies Sprint, Gallic Princess was a R70 000 buy from the 2018 National Yearling Sale.

She is the 17th stakes winner for Vercingetorix -who also enjoyed success at Fairview on Tuesday when his Boland Stud bred son Celtillus scored over 1200 metres.

South Africa’s Champion Sire elect for 2021-2022, Vercingetorix proved popular at the recent Cape Premier Yearling Sale where his stock made up to R850 000.
