Malmoos to Ridgemont Highlands

8th February 2022

Last season’s World Sports Betting Triple Crown winner Malmoos is set to retire to Ridgemont Highlands later this year, where he will join the likes of Canford Cliffs, Potala Palace and Rafeef.

Bred by Varsfontein Stud, Malmoos raced in the famous blue and white silks of the late Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum -as did current boom sire Rafeef.
The Mike de Kock trained colt, a R4 400 000 buy from the 2019 National Yearling Sale, won seven of just 12 starts for earnings of inexcess of R1.487 million.

Not only did Malmoos land the 2021 WSB Triple Crown -the G2 Gauteng Guineas, G1 SA Classic, and G1 SA Derby-he was also victorious in both the G2 Avontuur Estate Concorde Cup and G3 Palacebet.co.za Live Games Graham Beck Stakes.
Malmoos, who hails from the potent Roberto male line, is one of 105 stakes winners for his deceased sire Captain Al -South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2014-2015 and 2017-2018.
Eight times leading sire of 2yos in South Africa, Captain Al’s other sire sons at stud include proven G1 sire Captain Of All and the likes of Erik The Red, One World and William Longsword.
From the famed Soho Secret family, Malmoos (bred on the hugely successful Captain Al/Fort Wood cross) is a full-brother to G3 Lonsdale Stirrup Cup/G3 East Cape Derby winner Captain Splendid, and his Spook Express Handicap winning dam Justthewayyouare is a half-sister to dual G2 winner, and successful sire, Master Of My Fate.

The G1 SA Derby winning Malmoos is very closely related to Captain Al’s top-class son, and Varsfontein Stud resident, Erik The Red.
A stud fee will be announced at a later date.
