Track And Ball Oaks 1-2 for Futura

18th Jun 2022

Drakenstein Stud’s four time G1 winning sire, and former Horse Of The Year, Futura had a notable success at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Saturday when Futura daughters Pink Tourmaline and Light Of The Moon ran first and second respectively in the G2 Track And Ball Oaks (2400m).

Both Pink Tourmaline and Light Of The Moon were bred by their owner Drakenstein Stud.

Hailing from the Brett Crawford yard, Pink Tourmaline claimed the biggest win of her career with a gutsy performance in Saturday’s R300 000 contest for fillies and mares.
Under an inform Louis Mxothwa, the four-year-old powered home down the outside of the Scottsville to get up in the shadow of the post and win the 2022 Track And Ball Oaks by just under half a length.

Pink Tourmaline’s Listed Ormond Ferraris Oaks Trial winning paternal half-sister Light Of The Moon was game back in second and she looks overdue a big payday herself.

It was a first graded win for Pink Tourmaline, who had captured the Listed Ardmore Jamaica Handicap earlier in the season and who had finished a good third, to champion Rain In Holland, in the G2 4Racing Gerald Rosenberg Stakes last time out.

Out of the Trippi mare Sapphire Gem, Pink Tourmaline has now won six of 17 starts for earnings of over R480 000.

Saturday’s winner is bred on the same Futura/Trippi cross as G3 Poinsettia Stakes winner Vihaan’s Pie and Listed Bauhinia Handicap queen Sweet Future..

South Africa’s Horse Of The Year in 2014-2015, Futura is also responsible for this season’s impressive WSB Dahlia Plate winner Ekoria, who ran fourth in the G1 Allan Robertson Championship, and this season’s G3 WSB Variety Club Mile runner up Future Prince.
