Trippi grandson to contest G1 Belmont Stakes

9th Jun 2017

Drakenstein Stud’s champion sire Trippi will be represented as a broodmare sire in Saturday’s classic G1 Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park this Saturday.

MULTIPLIER winning the Illinois Derby at Hawthorne Racecourse on 4/22/17. James Graham up.

Trippi is the damsire of G3 Illinois Derby winner Multiplier, who will jump from barrier 10 in Saturday’s 2400m classic –the final leg of the US Triple Crown.
Multiplier, trained by Brendan Walsh, will be partnered by Joel Rosario in Saturday’s $1.5 million Belmont Stakes.

His trainer Brendan Walsh commented, “He’s just so laid-back, [adding blinkers will] just help him to focus a little bit more and maybe travel a little better early on in the race. He broke his maiden without them, so I wasn’t going to
change then. Then he won the Illinois Derby without them so I
wasn’t going to change then either.”

He is one of a growing number of high class performers produced by daughters of Trippi, with this including G1 Breeders’ Cup winning sire Liam’s Map, G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile runner up and G3 Iroqouis Stakes winner Not This Time and this year’s multiple stakes winning filly Miss Sunset.

Trippi has enjoyed yet another great season in 2016-2017 with his top runners including G1 Premier’s Champions Challenge winner Deo Juvente. The latter is one of two Trippi sons set to do battle in the G1 Rising Sun Gold Challenge this Saturday, with Trip To Heaven (first past the post in this race 12 months ago) being the other.

South Africa’s reigning champion sire has five daughters on offer at next week’s Mares, Weanlings & Fillies For Stud Select Sale.
