Tuesday double for Twice Over

25th May 2022

Klawervlei Stud’s bang inform stallion Twice Over is enjoying a fantastic season in 2021-2022 thus far, and the former European Champion came up with two more smart winners at Kenilworth on Tuesday.

Twice Over has a smashing crop of three-year-olds, and one very smart three-year-old representing Twice Over this season is the Candice Bass-Robinson trained Resonate.
The latter, winner of the Listed Ibhayi Stakes back in February, was making his first start since landing the Ibhayi Stakes but proved too classy for his rivals when running out a convincing winner of Tuesday’s fifth race.
Under Aldo Domeyer, the Twice Over gelding was always travelling well and the Ridgemont Highlands bred Resonate exploded in the closing stages to win going away by nearly half a length.

The Second Wave provided Twice Over with a second winner on Tuesday when he captured the sixth race at Kenilworth.
One of four winners on the day for Keagan De Melo, the Lucinda Woodruff trained gelding made it win number five with a courageous performance on Tuesday. Hiting the front someway from home, The Second Wave kept finding more to win a shade cosily by a length and a quarter.

Bred by part-owners Messrs Makaab, Kalil and Geoff Woodruff, The Second Wave, who was raised at Sorrento Stud, races for his breeders in partnership with Mike Fullard and James Drew.

His inform sire Twice Over, whose notable flagbearers this season include G1 Cape Guineas winner Double Superlative and G2 Senor Santa Stakes victor Smorgasbord, could be in for another good weekend this week, with his son Senso Unico a highly regarded chance in Saturday’s G1 Daily News 2000.

Twice Over has a single lot on offer at the upcoming CTS Farm Yearling Sale, and three lots on offer at this year’s KZN Yearling Sale.
