South Africa’s reigning champion sire Vercingetorix had a good day on Tuesday when he was responsible for a pair of winners at Hollywoodbets Durbanville.
Vercingetorix gelding Gallic Forge made all the running when he won Tuesday’s Lucky Fish Diamond Riches Maiden Plate (1400m).
Under a great ride from Luyolo Mxothwa, the James Crawford trained three-year-old kept finding in the closing stages to win by a long neck.
Bred by the Syrilla Stud, Gallic Forge, who is out of the Western Winter mare Winter’s Forge, races for Mr Murugasa.
His sire struck again when Vercingetorix filly Beautiful Side won the Hollywoodbets Bright Future Open Maiden (2000m). The Eric Sands trained filly hit the front 200m from home and powered away to shed her maiden by two and a quarter lengths.
Bred and owned by Willem Engelbrecht Jnr, Beautiful Side is out of the Jet Master mare Bit On The Side.
Vercingetorix is also the sire of the promising three-year-old Primal Instinct, who made an eye catching debut on Tuesday when he ran second in the Join The Race Coast Turf Club Open Maiden (1250m).
The Maine Chance resident has yet another smart sort to his name in the form of Stormwatch. The latter recently made it two wins from just three starts when she won at Hollywoodbets Durbanville.
