Klawervlei Stud’s very much inform stallion Twice Over was responsible for the top lot sold at Sunday’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
The former European champion’s unnamed son (Lot 66) was knocked down to John Freeman for R2 000 000 to top the De Grendel Wine Estate based auction.
Consigned to the sale by Klawervlei, the sales topping colt, bred on the same Twice Over/Jet Master cross as this season’s G1 Cape Guineas winner Double Superlative, is out of the three time winning Jet Master mare Jet Set Model.
The latter’s Listed Betting World Laisserfaire Stakes winning half-sister Joshua’s Mistress is the dam of this season’s classy three-year-old Prince Of Fire, and further back, this is the family of former G1 Vodacom Durban July winner, and Equus Champion, Heavy Metal.
South Africa’s reigning champion sire Gimmethegreenlight was responsible for the top priced filly sold at the 2022 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
His unnamed daughter (Lot 115) was also knocked down to John Freeman, with this filly fetching R1 100 000 at Sunday’s sale.
Also consigned by Klawervlei, the pricey filly was produced by the blue blooded Giant’s Causesway mare Primrose Hill, already dam of the very smart Hug And A Kiss -a dual winner and runner up in the G3 Prix Penelope.
Primrose Hill, in turn, is out of the Unbridled’s Song sired G1 Matron Stakes winner Marylebone, and further back this is the family of multiple G1 winner, and sire, Came Home.
The 2022 Cape Premier Yearling Sale saw 177 of the 188 yearlings originally offered for sale pass through the ring. The 166 lots to sell grossed R43.33 million, with the average price R261 024, and the median R175 000.
