Two in a row for Pathfork

18th Dec 2017

Highlands Stud’s resident sire, and Irish champion, Pathfork dominated early proceedings at Kenilworth on Saturday.
Distorted Humor’s G1 winning son was responsible for both Township Melody, winner of the first race, and Bid Before Sunset, successful in the second race on Forus Cape Guineas day.

My Friend Lee

Both 3yo fillies, two of Pathfork’s only three runners at Kenilworth on the day, are trained by Justin Snaith.

Township Melody, who was bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, justified 16-10 favouritism by a one and a half length win over 1200 metres on Saturday. Inbred to Danzig, Township Melody was a R300 000 buy from the 2016 National Yearling Sale.

Favour Stud bred Bid Before Sunset, who had recorded four runner up finishes in her past five outings, who romped to a two and a quarter length win over 1400m. The filly, produced by the Rakeen mare Fancy Halo, was a R250 000 buy from the 2016 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.

Pathfork, whose wins included both the G1 National Stakes and G2 Futurity Stakes, made a superb start to his stud career. His first crop of runners yielded graded stakes winners Red Chesnut Road (G3 Godolphin Barb Stakes) and My Friend Lee (G3 Magnolia Handicap). His current crop of 3yos include promising performer, and Listed Secretariat Stakes runner up, Harlan County and debut feature race winner Precious Pansy.

He has a single lot on the 2018 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, a filly whose five winning siblings include Listed Golden Loom Handicap winner Doing It For Dan (Lot179).
