Maine Chance Farms’ exciting young stallion Vercingetorix came up with his sixth stakes winner when his speedy son Celtic Voyager won the Listed Terrance Millard Umngeni Handicap (1000m) at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday.

Trained by Glen Kotzen, the Maine Chance Farms bred four-year-old sped clear to score by just under a length, while taking his tally of wins to five, from 13 starts.

A second feature race winner on the day for jockey Warren Kennedy, Celtic Voyager, victorious in the Durban Dash two starts back,  was a R150 000 buy from the 2018 National Sale.

Celtic Voyager, the fifth black type winner to have emerged from his sire’s stellar first crop, is out of the Black Minnaloushe mare Cat’s Paw.

His multiple G1 winning sire Vercingetorix, South Africa’s Leading Second Season Sire and Leading Sire of 3YOs for 2019-2020, has made a superb start to his stud career, with the son of Silvano’s first crop now including 12 black type horses, and his second crop headed by G1 Allan Robertson Championship/G3 Strelitzia Stakes heroine Vernichey.

A champion in South Africa, and winner of Dubai’s G1 Jebel Hatta, Vercingetorix has a stud fee of R50 000 for 2020.
