Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm’s top class sire Var appears on track to defend his title as South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2YOs.
At the time of writing, Var has been represented by no fewer than sixteen 2yo winners in South Africa this season, including G2 SA Nursery winner William The Silent. His juvenile runners have already banked in excess of R2 million, with the promise of more to come.
Var is also sire of Vaughan Marshall’s hugely exciting two-year-old Jardin, who maintained his unbeaten record when winning at Scottsville on Wednesday. The Avontuur bred gelding, winner of his first official race as well as a barrier trial, won for a second time in as many outings when victorious in a juvenile plate, scoring by half a length, over 1200m.
It was another 3.25 lengths back to third place finisher, and son of US champion sire Elusive Quality, Exclusive Quantity.
Jardin, who had won his first official race by two lengths, was a R450 000 buy from the 2017 National Yearling Sale.
Also sire of 2018 G1 South African Fillies Sprint winner Sommerlied, Var has four lots on offer at the 2018 Sibaya KZN Yearling Sale and will also be represented at next week’s Klawervlei Farm Sale.
