Vercingetorix blue-blood wins on debut

17th May 2025

Maine Chance Farms’ Champion Sire elect Vercingetorix has had an outstanding season in 2024-2025 and his great run continued at Turffontein on Saturday.
The champion son of Silvano came up with a pair of impressive winners at Turffontein on Saturday, with daughter Pretty Persuasive winning the fourth race and son Take No Prisoners making a winning debut to win race five.

Trained by Mathew and Mike De Kock, two-year-old Take No Prisoners made the perfect start to his racing career on Saturday.

Under Callan Murray, the Ridgemont Highlands bred colt dug down deep to best fellow first-timer Radio Star and win Saturday’s Charity Mile 1 November Maiden Plate (1400m) by a short-head.
The blue blooded Take No Prisoners is the second winner produced by top-class racemare Takingthepeace. A daughter of Visionaire, Takingthepeace won six times including both the G1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic and G1 Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas.

Vercingetorix has another promising two-year-old to his name in the form of Pretty Persuasive.
The latter, making just the second start of her career, ran out an impressive winner of Saturday’s #Youcanbetonus! Maiden Plate (F andM) (1400m).
Under Gavin Lerena, the Johan Janse Van Vuuren trained filly powered clear to shed her maiden by two and a half lengths.

Bred by Maine Chance Farms, Pretty Persuasive had caught the eye when finishing third on debut.

Saturday’s winner is out of the Captain Al mare Penny Royal and is bred on the same Vercingetorix/Captain Al cross as G1 winners Double Grand Slam and Vernichey.

Set to be crowned South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2024-2025, Vercingetorix has been responsible for no fewer than 20 stakes winners this season, with Vercingetorix runners picking up 24 black type races in South Africa this season.
