Vercingetorix fillies shine in Sycamore Sprint

15th Mar 2025

Maine Chance Farms’ star stallion Vercingetorix has had a wonderful season in 2024-2025, and the champion’s good form continued on Saturday when Vercingetorix fillies Mia Moo and Komati River finished 1-2 in the G3 4Racing Sycamore Sprint (1160m) at Turffontein.
The Sean Tarry-trained Mia Moo became Vercingetorix’s 53rd stakes winner when she won the 2025 Sycamore Sprint.
One of three winners on the day for her trainer, four-year-old Mia Moo was given a fine ride by Piere Strydom.
Always up with the pace, Mia Moo kept finding in the closing stages to hold off her paternal half-sister Komati River and win by half a length.
Bred by Klawervlei Stud, Mia Moo has won four of 14 starts, with the filly having finished second, to another Vercingetorix daughter Double Grand Slam, in the 2024 G3 Umzimkhulu Stakes.
The filly, out of the Captain Al mare Leeward, was a R300 000 purchase from the 2022 National Yearling Sale.
Mia Moo is the latest stakes winner bred on the Vercingetorix/Captain Al cross, with this pattern having also produced G1 winners Double Grand Slam and Vernichey as well as high-class sprinter Golden Sickle.
Her sire, South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2024-2025, is enjoying a magnificent run of success this season. Vercingetorix’s numerous high-class performers include the aforementioned Double Grand Slam, and fellow graded stakes winners Greaterix, Rascallion, Spumante Dolce, and Zeitz.
Vercingetorix is also the sire of unbeaten three-year-old Immediate Edge, who showed his class when running out a courageous winner of the Listed World Sports Betting Hawwaam Stakes.
