Maine Chance Farms’ outstanding sire Vercingetorix made news at Turffontein on Saturday when his champion daughter Mrs Geriatrix won the Bloodstock SA Sales Cup (Fillies) (1450m) in game fashion.
In the process, the Sean Tarry trained filly made it six wins from six starts.
Last season’s Equus Champion 2YO Filly, Mrs Geriatrix was dispatched the 1-4 tote favourite for Saturday’s R400 000 Non Black Type feature, and she duly obliged.
Under a confident Richard Fourie, who has ridden the filly in her last five starts, Mrs Geriatrix put her head down in the shadow of the post to maintain her unbeaten record by a head.
Bred by Clifton Stud, Mrs Geriatrix is out of the Kahal mare Velvet Glove.
The star filly reeled off four feature race wins in 2022-2023, with Mrs Geriatrix landing all of the G1 Allan Robertson Championship, G2 Zulu Kingdom Explorer Golden Slipper, G2 WSB SA Fillies Nursery and Listed Ruffian Stakes.
Mrs Geriatrix is one of eight G1 winners for her sire Vercingetorix, with the latter responsible for ten black type winners last season.
The champion son of Silvano has three lots on this month’s Cape Racing Ready To Run And Unbroken Two Year Old Sale, and a further five lots on sale at the November Two Year Old Sale.
