Maine Chance Farms’ multiple champion sire Vercingetorix looks to have come up with another potentially smart sort in the form of Viva Asterix.
The latter made it two wins, from two starts, when winning a good race at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Wednesday.

Trained by Candice Bass, like his top-class full-brother Viva’s Liberte, three-year-old Viva Asterix had caught the eye when making a winning debut over 1250m in August.
He duly maintained his unbeaten record when he won Wednesday’s Join The Race Coast Turf Club C Stakes (1250m).

Always prominent, under Craig Zackey, Viva Asterix pulled out more in the closing stages of Wednesday’s contest and fought on to win a good race by a long neck.

Bred by Lammerskraal Stud, the Vercingetorix gelding is owned by Khaya Stables.

Viva Asterix, who is out of the Jet Master sired G1 Woolavington 2000 winner Viva Maria, was a R2 800 000 buy from the 2025 National Yearling Sale.

He was one of three winners on Wednesday for South Africa’s reigning champion sire, with Vercingetorix sons Secret Tactic and Dubbelosix winning races one and six respectively.

Lightly raced four-year-old Secret Tactic got off the mark at just the second time of asking when he won Wednesday’s Hollywoodbets Durbanville Welcomes You Open Maiden (1000m) while his paternal half-brother Dubbelosix made it win number three when he won the Race Coast Incentives Powered By Hollywoodbets Class 4 (1600m).

Vercingetorix has nine lots on offer at the upcoming October Two Year Old Sale.
