Madison’s Luna, a three-year-old half-brother to Lammerskraal Stud’s successful sire Visionaire, made an impressive winning debut at Tampa Bay Downs on Saturday.
A son of Tapit, Madison’s Luna won a maiden over 1300m for trainer Philip Bauer and jockey Antonio Gallardo in pleasing fashion, with the well bred colt making his move turning for home to score cosily.
Madison’s Luna is out of the outstanding French Deputy mare Scarlet Tango, herself a four time winner who was second in the Laura’s Gal Stakes.
Scarlet Tango is the dam of three graded stakes winners (by three different stallions) to date –headed by G1 Santa Margarita Stakes winner Tara’s Tango, G3 Providencia Stakes heroine Scarlet Strike and G1 King’s Bishop Stakes/G3 Gotham Stakes winner Visionaire.
A son of Grand Slam, Visionaire was South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire in 2014-2015.
The handsome chestnut was in the news last week when his G3 Byerley Turk winning son Africa Rising downed champion Mustaaqeem in a progress plate over 1200m, while another son of Visionaire, The Thinker, was victorious in the G2 World Sports Betting Merchants earlier this season.
To date, The Thinker has earned nearly R600 000 in prize money.
Visionaire had some exceptional foals born in his first Cape crop last year and he looks an exciting addition to the local stallion band!
