Talented four-year-old Madison’s Luna, a half-brother to the Lammerskraal Stud based Visionaire, made it win number three when he won an allowance optional claiming race, over a mile and 70 yards at Indiana Grand Race Course on Wednesday.
The winner of last term’s GIII Hutcheson Stakes, Madison’s Luna closed out his sophomore season with a fifth in the restricted Curlin S. over a sloppy nine panels at Saratoga in late July. Resurfacing 10 months later in a turf sprint at Churchill Downs May 16, he faded to fourth that day and was eighth next out in a similar test beneath the Twin Spires June 13.
Returning to the main track inthis rained-off test the 6-5 chalk was bumped at the break, but quickly recovered, giving chase from second through moderate early splits. Ranging up to take on the leader in the stretch, the gray seized command and kicked clear to score by 1 1/4 lengths.
A son of Tapit, the four-year-old Madison’s Luna is one of four graded stakes winners produced by the stakes placed French Deputy mare Scarlet Tango.
The latter is also dam of G1 winners Visionaire (King’s Bishop Stakes) and Tara’s Tango (Santa Margarita Stakes) and the talented Scarlet Strike (G3 Providencia Stakes).
The Cape based sire Visionaire (South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire in 2014-2015 and Leading Second Crop Sire in 2015-2016) is responsible for 13 black type performers including G1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic winner Takingthepeace.
Visionaire has 7 lots on the 2019 KZN Yearling Sale.
