Wednesday double for Rafeef

9th March 2023

Ridgemont Highlands’ G1 Computaform Sprint winning sire Rafeef continues to impress as a stallion, and the son of Redoute’s Choice struck twice again at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Wednesday.
Rafeef’s first score on Wednesday came when his three-year-old son Rafiki won the second race on the card.
Under Robert Khathi, the Andre Nel trained gelding kept finding more to stay on and win Wednesday’s The Apache Maiden Plate (1600m) by just under a length and three-quarters.
Bred by Ndoro Stud, Rafiki is out of the Argonaut mare Syringa.
Rafeef is also the sire of the smart filly Only Emily, who made it three wins in a row when she won Wednesday’s Along Came Polly FM 68 Handicap (F&M) (1000m).
Under Rachel Venniker, the Michael Roberts trained four-year-old dug down deep to best runner up Perfect Appeal by a neck.
Now a four time winner, Only Emily was bred by Moutonshoek.
Her sire had also enjoyed success at Hollywoodbets Durbanville the day before where Rafeef filly Shantastic won the eighth and final race on the card.
South Africa’s Leading First and Second Season Sire of his year, Rafeef is having another good season this year with his flagbearers including G2 Jonsson Workwear Dingaans hero Union Square and the very exciting two-year-old Outlaw King.
