Wednesday double for William

13th Oct 2022

Klawervlei Stud’s homebred G1 Cape Guineas winning sire William Longsword has been in fine form of late, and the son of Captain Al struck twice more at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Wednesday afternoon.
William Longsword struck first when his promising three-year-old son Professor Snape ran out a game and convincing winner of the second race on the Durbanville card, the Maiden Special Weights (1600m).
Under a strong ride from Corne Orffer, the flashy grey flew up late to score convincingly going away.

Trained, like his sire and grandsire Captain Al, by Vaughan Marshall, the Varsfontein Stud bred Professor Snape had finished second on his only two previous starts and the three-year-old is held in high regard by his connections..

William Longsword gelding William The First provided his sire with a double when he made much of the running to land the fourth race at Durbanville -the Maiden Plate (2000m).
Under a well judged ride from Gareth Wright, the three-year-old kept finding more in the closing stages to go away and score by a length and a half.
Trained by Eric Sands, the Cheveley Stud bred William The First had finished third over 1600m last time out, with Wednesday being the fourth start of his career.

One of the very best sons of Captain Al, William Longsword has some very well bred two-year-olds coming up for sale at this month’s Cape Racing Ready To Run & 2YO Unbroken Sale. His draft includes a filly (Lot 3) very closely related to the Captain Al sired champion Celtic Sea, a half-brother (Lot 54) to the smart Blizzard and a three-parts brother (Lot 92) to champion All Is Secret.
