The family of Wilgerbosdrift’s blue blooded young sire Fire Away continues to make waves in North America, and Fire Away’s stellar female line gained yet another boost on Sunday when his close relative Arabian Lion was named a Rising Star by respected publication TDN.
A $600 000 buy, two-year-old Arabian Lion was pounded down to 3-5, with workmate Elwood Blues next in the betting at 5-2. The wagering public got it right. Arabian Lion emerged with the early advantage as Elwood Blues rushed up in between foes to be second as they entered the bend. Arabian Lion posted a half in :44.90, shrugged off his seemingly much smaller stablemate fully by midstretch and strode out a three-length winner of a six furlong maiden at Santa Anita.
The 18th winner for his unbeaten sire Justify, the Bob Baffert trained Arabian Lion is out of the Distorted Humor mare Unbound.
The latter, whose full-sister Mary Rita produced impressive recent G2 winner Major Dude, is out of Possibility, whose unbeaten dam Personal Ensign also ranks as the granddam of Fire Away.
Fire Away, whose first crop race this season, has a single lot on offer at this month’s Cape Racing Ready To Run & 2YO Unbroken Sale, and three lots on sale at the 2022 November Two Year Old Sale.
