Drakenstein Stud’s successful young sire Philanthropist enjoyed a good weekend when represented by a cracking local double.
First of the Philanthropist runners to score was the Klawervlei Stud bred Miss Carrera, who showed plenty of courage when landing her first race over 1600m at Kenilworth on Saturday.
Just one day later, another Philanthropist runner was in the winners’ enclosure, when Rockefeller, also bred by Klawervlei, sauntered home to a nearly two length score over 2000m at Greyville.
The gelding, who had won on debut, has now won three and looks unlikely to stop here!
A proven sire, whose overseas runners include champions Pender Harbour and Phil’s Dream, Philanthropist has made a cracking start to his South African stud career.
His first crop has produced likes of graded winners She’s A Giver and Singapore Sling, as well as high class filly Sail, while his second local crop includes very smart 2yo filly Outlander, who finished second in the recent Listed Ruffian Stakes.
The son of Kris S has 11 lots on offer at May’s National Yearling Sale, with Philanthropist’s NYS draft including a filly out of Jet Master’s G1 winning daughter Little Miss Magic (Lot 24), a filly (inbred to Grey Flight) out of G3 winning 2yo Madrisa (Lot 30), a filly out of G2 SA Fillies Nursery winner Waywest Goddess (Lot 250), and a colt from the same family as leading sires Invincible Spirit and Kodiac as well as former Australian star 2yo Pride Of Dubai (Lot 259).
