Varsfontein Stud’s bang in-form stallion Master Of My Fate, whose relative Soft Day topped Sunday’s Cape Yearling Sale, has been firing on all cylinders of late, and the magnificent son of Jet Master and fellow champion Promisefrommyheart was at it again this weekend.

The red hot Master Of My Fate had no fewer than five winners over the weekend, with his progeny notching up a double at both Fairview and Durbanville, and Master Of My Fate gelding Whiskey Road getting off the mark at Greyville on Sunday.

Master Of My Fate’s gelded 3yo son Master Design was his sire’s first winner of the weekend, when the Jacques Strydom trained sophomore got off the mark by scoring a half-length win over 1400m at Fairview on Friday.
With Master Design successful in Friday’s third race, another son of the increasingly successful Master Of My Fate came good in Fairview’s fifth race, with the Gavin Smith trained Masterful landing a graduation plate over 1400m to give the Varsfontein sire a quick double.

Bred and owned by Brad Van Der Riet, the lightly raced Masterful has now won three of his ten races –with the gelding having begun his career with a winning debut over 1200 metres.

Master Of My Fate fillies Driving Miss Daisy and Blush Scarlet provided their sire with yet another double when they won Durbanville’s third and fifth races respectively on Saturday.
Two-year-old Driving Miss Daisy became Master Of My Fate’s third juvenile winner (his tally of 2yos this season include unbeaten Ruffian Stakes winner Basadi Faith) this season when she flew up late to shed her maiden at just the second time of asking when successful over 1250m on Saturday.

Trained by Eric Sands, the Brian Finch bred Driving Miss Daisy was an R80 000 buy from the 2018 National 2YO Sale. And just two races later, paternal half-sister, the 3yo Blush Scarlet who is bred and owned by Varsfontein Stud, made much of the running to shed her maiden over 1600m for Glen Kotzen and Morne Winnaar.

Whiskey Road gave Master Of My Fate a fifth winner over the past weekend, when the Jeff Freedman trained gelding shed his maiden on Sunday. Placed at each of his three previous starts, the Daytona Stud bred Whiskey Road got off the mark when scoring a half length victory in Sunday’s ninth and final race at Greyville.

His multiple graded stakes winning sire Master Of My Fate has consistent success this season thus far, with his South African based runners having already won all of the G3 Politician Stakes, G3 Cape Classic, Listed Derby Trial and Listed Ruffian Stakes in 2018-2019 –with the promise of plenty more to come!
