What A Winter two-year-old wows on debut

23rd April 2022

Drakenstein Stud’s inform resident sire What A Winter looks to have a potentially very smart daughter on his hands in the form of promising two-year-old Blue Waters.
The latter made a hugely impressive, winning debut when saluting at Turffontein on Saturday afternoon, and Blue Waters looks more than capable of building on her easy first win.

Trained by Paul Peters, Blue Waters was the subject of sustained pre-race betting support with the What A Winter filly eventually starting a well backed 15-10 tote favourite.
Under Warren Kennedy, Blue Waters hit the front some way from home in Saturday’s Darrell Hall Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies) before powering home to win by three lengths.

Bred by Narrow Creek Stud, the filly was a R130 000 buy from the 2021 August Two Year Old Sale.

Out of the Silvano mare Miss Magical, Blue Waters is a three-parts sister to the What A Winter sired G2 Sceptre Stakes winner Magical Wonderland.

Blue Waters is one of a number of promising two-year-olds for What A Winter, Leading Sire of 2YOs in South Africa by stakes last season, with the sire’s other smart juveniles this season including Ruffian Stakes runner up Magic Tycoon, debut winner Alpine Challenger and the promising Miss Cool.

Currently second on the Leading Sires of 2YOs List (by stakes), What A Winter has 20 lots on offer at the 2022 National Yearling Sale.
