Brilliant US three-year-old Galilean, whose immediate relatives include Ridgemont Highlands’ well performed stallion Jackson, showed his class in no uncertain terms when romping home to a four and a half length win in the California Cup Derby at Santa Anita on Monday.

Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, the 1-20 favourite had won the King Glorious Stakes by nine lengths at his previous outing and Galilean made it three wins from four starts on Monday with another breathtaking display.

A son of Uncle Mo and the El Prado mare Fresia, Galilean (whose Gone West sired Fleet Of Foot is a ¾ sister to Jackson’s Gone West sired second dam Prairie Reign) is 3-for-4, a neck away from being unbeaten, with $261,000 in earnings. Having twice sold at Barretts, the bay was eligible for the restricted stakes for sales alumni at Los Alamitos. As a yearling, he had brought $60,000 and turned into a pinhook home run when Eddie Woods resold him for $600,000 as a two-year-old in training.

He now looks likely to be aimed towards a possible Kentucky Derby points race.

Galilean’s fifth dam is none other than mighty mare No Class –the dam of champions Classy ‘N Smart (dam of multiple champion sire Smart Strike and Breeders’ Cup champion Dance Smartly), Sky Classic, Regal Classic and Grey Classic.

The stakes placed No Class is also the fourth dam of triple G1 winning sire Jackson.

The latter, whose six wins included the 2012 G1 Investec Cape Derby, 2012 G1 Daily News 2000 and 2013 G1 Champions Cup, made a pleasing start with his first runners headed by G1 filly Can You Feel It, G3 performer Mr Crumford and the smart winners Action Jackson, Heaven’s Embrace and Water Spirit.

A son of four times Equus Outstanding Stallion Dynasty, Jackson has six lots on offer at next month’s Cape Yearling Sale.
