Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm’s inform sire Oratorio, who is currently fourth on the South African General Sires List, had another good weekend this past week when the triple G1 winning son of Danehill had four winners (and a barrier trial winner) in three days in South Africa.

Oratorio, a twice Champion Sire in Italy, got the weekend off to a good start when responsible for a pair of winners at Fairview on Friday afternoon. His 3yo daughter Cabelle got off the mark when scoring a half length win over 1200m for trainer Gavin Smith and jockey Chase Maujean, while Oratorio son November Storm provided his sire with a double when winning over 1300m on Friday.
Oratorio enjoyed a 100% strike rate at Fairview, with Cabelle and November Storm the sire’s only runners on the day.
The following day, saw Oratorio’s talented four-year-old son Capoeira put up a game performance when fighting back gamely to score a long neck win over promising 3yo Invidia in a graduation plate over 1400m at Kenilworth. Third, to Hawwaam and Twist Of Fate, in last season’s G1 Daily News 2000, the Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein bred Capoeira could be aimed at the 2020 G1 Sun Met following Saturday’s win.
Oratorio went close to having more success at Kenilworth on Saturday with his smart daughter Snapscan finishing second in a competitive conditions plate for fillies and mares over 1800m, and his Racing Association Stakes winning son Viva Rio running fourth in the G2 Concorde Cup.

Avontuur’s sire ended the weekend on a high note, when his smart son Chantyman won a barrier trial at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday, while Oratorio filly Ode provided Oratorio with yet more success when she broke her maiden over 1200m on Sunday afternoon.
From the same family as top sires Alydar, Grand Slam and Plum Bold, Oratorio is on the verge of siring 100 stakes horses, with his current total of black type horses sitting at 99 (his 55 stakes winners include eight G1 winners including champions Military Attack, Banchee, Beethoven, and Biz The Nurse).
