Second winner for Rafeef

13th January 2021

Ridgemont Highlands’ G1 winning young sire Rafeef came up with his second first-crop winner when his two-year-old daughter Civil Rights won at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Wednesday.

Trained by Michael Miller, the Rafeef filly had finished second on debut and duly went one better on Wednesday.

Under Ashton Arries, the 13-10 tote favourite jumped out quickly and went straight to the lead. Civil Rights kept going strongly, before going on to post a 3.4 length maiden win at just the second time of asking.

Bred by Moutonshoek, Civil Rights is out of the Fort Wood mare Al Kindi.

A son of Redoute’s Choice, Rafeef has made a flying start to his stud career with two of his first three runners having won.

Rafeef, a full-brother to Equus Champion and G1 SA Nursery winner Mustaaqeem, won six of ten starts and downed champions Talktothestars and Carry On Alice when he won the 2017 G1 Computaform Sprint.
