What A Winter’s three-year-old daughter Ethiopian Queen got off the mark when romping home to a more than two length win in Wednesday’s second race, the www.pinkdrive.co.za Maiden Plate (F&M) over 1000m.

Trained by Peter Muscutt, the Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein bred three-year-old had been placed in each of her three previous starts.

Her sire’s second success on Wednesday came when the What A Winter sired gelding Winter Flight won the eighth and final race at Greyville. Also trained by Peter Muscutt, Winter Flight stayed on gamely to win the Hollywoodbets Bright Future MR 96 Handicap (1200m).
A four-year-old bred by Ridgemont Highlands, Winter Flight had finished second to What A Winter’s very smart son Princekresh in each of his two previous starts.
What A Winter’s only other runner at Greyville on Wednesday, Another Love, finished a close up third in Wednesday’s seventh race, going close to providing her sire with his third win on the day.

South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2YOs last season, What A Winter had previously enjoyed a double at Kenilworth the day before, with his daughter What A Blizzard winning the first and son You Know Who victorious in the fifth race.

What A Winter has seven lots on Sunday’s CTS Ready To Run Sale, including a half-sister (Lot 4) to champion and G1 producer Via Africa, and a half-brother (Lot 46) to current top-class four-year-old Seeking The Stars.
