Wednesday double for Canford Cliffs

6th March 2025

Ridgemont’s inform stallion Canford Cliffs’ good run of form continued at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Wednesday.
The five time G1 winning miler came up with two winners on Wednesday, with Canford Cliffs enjoying a 100% strike rate on the day.
His first success came when regally bred filly Hoerikwaggo won the third race on Wednesday.
Making just her third start, the Brett and James Crawford trained three-year-old was given a superbly timed ride by Richard Fourie.
Fourie bought Hoerikwaggo with a perfectly timed challenge, and the pair drew off to win by three-parts of a length.
Third on debut, before finishing sixth on her only other start prior to Wednesday, Hoerikwaggo was bred by Ridgemont Highlands.
The filly is the ninth winner for her dam Our Table Mountain, Equus Champion Broodmare of 2015-2016.
Canford Cliffs’ second winner on Wednesday was Strawberry Thief. Also trained by the Crawfords for Ridgemont and Devin Heffer, the three-year-old got off the mark when she won the RaceCape Powered By Hollywoodbets Open Maiden over 1800 metres.
Another booted home by Richard Fourie, Strawberry Thief came from the back of the field in Wednesday’s race to win going away by nearly half a length.
The Ridgemont Highlands bred Strawberry Thief, trying Hollywoodbets Durbanville for the first time on Wednesday, was making just her fourth start.
Canford Cliffs recently made headlines both as a sire and as a broodmare sire. His two-year-old daughter Direct Hit maintained her unbeaten record when romping home to a two and three-quarter length win in the G3 SplashOut Cape Of Good Hope Nursery, while star Australian mare Amelia’s Jewel (out of the Canford Cliffs mare Bumbasina) won the recent G2 Proven Thoroughbreds Guy Walter Stakes at Randwick. Five-year-old Amelia’s Jewel, who is being aimed at the G1 Coolmore Classic, has won ten of 22 starts for earnings of more than AUS $4 000 000. She had won nine of her first 11 starts, with Amelia’s Jewel’s past wins including a triumph in the G1 Northerly Stakes.
The former Irish 2000 Guineas winner has a single lot on offer at the Premier Yearling Sale, and likewise on the National Yearling Sale.
