Sandown Stud’s successful resident sire Ashaawes has enjoyed a purple patch of success with his recent runners and the son of Kingmambo was represented by his fifth winner, from the past eight days, when the well related Winter Watch made most of the running to break her maiden at the Vaal on Tuesday.

Trained by Roy Magner, the 2yo Winter Watch, who had been runner up on her previous two outings, impressed in defeating the well bred Cals Crush to win by nearly two and a half lengths over1000m as the tote favourite.
Out of the Western Winter mare Inuit Woman, the speedy Winter Watch has now won or placed in all three of her starts to date.
She is by no means the only smart two-year-old for Ashaawes this season, with the latter also being responsible for the undefeated Aurelia Cotta, who has won her only two outings by nearly five lengths.
Ashaawes’ other recent winners include the promising 3yo filly Barinois (who recently broke her maiden at just her second appearance for trainer Duncan Howells) and five length scorer Well Dressed.
A proven sire, who hails from the same family as hugely successful US sire Broken Vow, Ashaawes’ other notable runners include the graded winners Priceless Jewel and Reim, and high class Dubai G1 performer Sanshaawes.
