Varsfontein Stud’s red-hot resident sire Master Of My Fate is enjoying another fine season in 2024-2025. The strapping son of Jet Master enjoyed yet more big race success on Saturday when his son Atticus Finch won the G1 Betway Summer Cup (2000m) at Turffontein.
In landing Saturday’s R6 000 000 feature, Atticus Finch joined Sentbydestiny, Zarina and champion Tempting Fate as a G1 winner for Master Of My Fate.
Third, behind fellow Master Of My Fate gelding Greeting My Master, in the G3 Betway Victory Moon Stakes last time out, Atticus Finch made amends for a luckless run in the 2023 G1 Betway Summer Cup with a convincing win on Saturday.
Under a well-judged ride from Calvin Habib, the Alec Laird-trained five-year-old stormed home to get up and beat dual G1 winner Purple Pitcher by just over a length.
Now a winner of 6 races with 7 places from 18 starts, the 5yo took his stakes earnings to R4 237 00 with his Summer Cup victory.
Bred by Varsfontein Stud, Atticus Finch, along with My Soul Mate, was one of two runners in the Summer Cup for his sire.
Atticus Finch, who is out of the Caesour mare Alexia, was a R150 000 buy from the 2021 National Yearling Sale.
Master Of My Fate is having a wonderful season in 2024-2025, with his flagbearers including not only Atticus Finch and Greeting My Master, but also Listed Laisserfaire Stakes winner Miss Marguerite, G3 BakerMcVeigh Diana Stakes third Princess Izzy, Listed Woolavington Stakes runner up Love Is A Rose, and G3 Cape Mile runner up Zapatillas.
