Byword half-brother lands Prix Eugene Adam

16th Jul 2017

Finche, a Frankel half-brother to Mauritzfontein’s promising young sire Byword, showed his class when running out a convincing winner of the G2 Prix Eugene Adam at Maisons-Laffitte on Sunday. Trained by Andre Fabre (who also conditioned Byword), Finche took his record to two wins from just three outings with a half-length win over the previously unbeaten Afandem in Sunday’s 2000m Prix Eugene Adam.

Finche, third to Afandem in the Listed Prix Ridgway previously, had won impressively on debut and he looks destined for bigger and better things than Sunday’s G2 win.

He is the third Group winner produced by Woodman mare Binche, whose previous notable winners include the G1 winners Byword and Proviso. Another member of this illustrious family, So Beloved, added further black type to this family when a close second in the G2 Qatar Airways Minstrel Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday.

Former French high-weight, and winner of the G1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot, the blue blooded Byword has made a promising start to his stud career, with his early winners including Talk Wrench and No More Words.

The chestnut has 16 lots on offer at next month’s National Two Year Old Sale, highlighted by a colt out of G3 winner Parviflora (whose sire Horse Chestnut is from the same family as Byword) (Lot 91), a colt out of Oaks Trial winner Tuscan Lass (Lot 216), a half-brother to high class performers Zanzamar and Ziparana (Lot 251), a filly out of Oaks winner Cyber Cento (Lot 335) and a half-brother to graded winners Royal Vintage and Alderry (the latter dam of G1 SA Derby winner Al Sahem) (Lot 347).
