Royal Crescent, a son of Klawervlei’s G1 sire Seventh Rock, made an eye catching debut when scoring first time out over1000m on Friday afternoon.
Trained by Tara Laing for Mayfair Speculators, the 3yo dug down deep, under a good ride from S’Manga Khumalo, to score by half a length at the expense of favourite Kir Royale.
Bred by Klawervlei, Royal Crescent was a R350 000 purchase from the 2015 Emperors Palace Select Yearling Sale.
His G1 Gold Medallion winning sire Seventh Rock has been in good form of late, with his recent winners including talented G3 filly Crystal Glamour, the very promising Red Granite (who has won her last two in a row), and Big Bang Theory, who is looking to make it three wins on the bounce when she lines up at Kenilworth on Saturday.
A blue blooded son of champions Rock Of Gibraltar and Ruby Clipper, Seventh Rock has 17 quality lots on offer at the 2017 March Yearling Sale. His draft includes a colt from the family of Holy Roman Emperor and Encosta De Lago (Lot 33), a colt out of Winter Oaks winner Schism (Lot 106), a colt out of Galileo’s G3 winner Sidera (Lot 111), a colt out of Silvano’s stakes winner Silver Holly (Lot 112), a half-sister to 2yo stakes winner Leeward (Lot 186), and a half sister to graded winners Joan Ranger and Fanzene (Lot 236).
