Varsfontein Stud’s inform stallion Erik The Red was responsible for the top lot sold at Saturday’s October Two Year Old Sale.
The son of Captain Al is the sire of Kissing Time (Lot 3), with that filly knocked down to Sandy and Eugene Arundel for a sales topping amount of R1 700 000.
Consigned to the sale by Soetendal Estate (As Agent), Kissing Time is out of the well performed Kissing Point. The latter, a daughter of Global View, won three times and ran second in the 2022 G3 Sycamore Sprint.
Herself out of the stakes placed Jet Master mare Kiss And Fly, Kissing Point is a half-sister to four black type horses led by exported G1 Cape Guineas winner Kilindini (by Silvano).
South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2YOs in 2025-2026, Erik The Red had nine lots sell at the October Two Year Old Sale for a gross total of R3 485 000. The Varsfontein homebred ended the one day auction as the fourth Leading Sire by Aggregate.
Erik The Red’s top-class son Red Spice is one of nine runners entered for Sunday’s G3 Cape Classic (the 2025 Cape Classic being won by Erik The Red’s son Vapour Trail).
