Varsfontein Stud’s champion sire Gimmethegreenlight was the toast of Kenilworth racecourse on Saturday when the G1 winning son of More Than Ready provided a pair of feature race winners.
Gimmethegreenlight’s first stakes success on Saturday came when his promising two-year-old son Light Speed captured the third race on the card, the G3 World Sports Betting Langerman (1500m).
Trained, like Gimmethegreenlight by Justin Snaith, Light Speed made it two wins from just three starts when he made much of the running to land the 2022 Langerman by a length and three-quarters, under a fine ride from Grant Van Niekerk.
The Langerman was another fantastic result for Gimmethegreenlight, who was not responsible for the winner but also for runner up Port Louis.
Bred by Maine Chance Farms, Light Speed was a R175 000 buy from the 2021 National Yearling Sale.
He is out of the Fort Wood mare Lady In Love, and is thus bred on the same Gimmethegreenlight/Fort Wood cross as graded stakes winners Hack Green, Green Pepper, Gee For Go and Second Base.
Gimmethegreenlight’s second feature race success on Saturday came when his talented daughter Going Up won the Listed WSB Bet With The Best Olympic Duel Stakes over 1200 metres.
Trained by Candice Bass-Robinson, three-year-old Going Up flew up late to land Saturday’s sprint for fillies and mares by an emphatic two and a quarter lengths.
She made a big impression on her jockey Keagan De Melo, who described Going Up as a very classy filly in the post-race interview.
A full-sister to G3 Prix Du Cap winner Rose In Bloom, Going Up has won or placed in five of just seven starts thus far, and was second in the Listed WSB Sweet Chestnut Stakes earlier in the season.
Going Up was bred by Ridgemont Highlands and she is out of the Goldkeeper mare Raise The Bar.
She is the 43rd stakes winner for Gimmethegreenlight-South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2021-2022.
The latter also showing promise as a broodmare sire, with Gimmethegreenlight broodmare sire of this season’s G1 Allan Robertson Championship winner Sweet Pepper among others.
