Drakenstein Stud’s inform stallion What A Winter is the sire of the progressive gelding Connery. The latter made it five wins in a row when victorious at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Wednesday.
Trained by Glen Kotzen, four-year-old Connery, reformed since being gelded, showed plenty of courage to win Wednesday’s Online Form Guide www.gallop.co.za MR 90 Handicap (1000m).
Under a strong ride from Jayce Botes, Connery kept finding in the closing stages to hold off Jet Legacy and score by nearly half a length.
Bred by Ten Einde Stud, Connery has won five of 16 starts and looks unlikely to stop here.
The gelding is out of the Captain Al mare Jo’s Bond.
His four-time G1 winning sire What A Winter had enjoyed success at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth the day before, where his three-year-old daughter Love Story won the first race on the card.
Winter Greeting and Elegant Ice will represent What A Winter in Saturday’s G3 Betway Carry On Alice Stakes.
