Brilliant five-year-old Lucky Lilac, whose dam is a G1 winning daughter of Wilgerbosdrift’s high-class sire Flower Alley, claimed the fourth G1 win of her career when she successfully defended her crown to claim Sunday’s G1 Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Hanshin racecourse.

She is just the fourth horse to win the Queen Elizabeth II Cup twice following Mejiro Dober (1998-99), Admire Groove (2003-04) and Snow Fairy (2010-11).
Breaking smoothly from the outermost draw, Lucky Lilac settled in mid-division behind Loves Only You, around 12th from the front, edged forward toward the end of the backstretch and continued to advance turning the corners wide. The defending champion immediately made bid entering the corner, assumed command 300 meters out and held off the strong charges from behind in the last 100 meters to cross the wire a neck in front.
After landing the 2019 QE II Cup, Lucky Lilac went on to finish second behind Glory Vase in the G1 Longines Hong Kong Vase at Sha Tin Racecourse in December. This year, she won the G1 Osaka Hai but then finished up the track in the G1 Takarasuka Kinen and third in the G2 Sapporo Kinen.
Lucky Lilac, a winner of five of her 13 starts, has now won at the highest level at 2,4, and 5.
A daughter of Orfevre, Lucky Lilac is out of the Flower Alley sired G1 Ashland Stakes winner Lilacs And Lace.
Winner of the 2005 Travers Stakes, Flower Alley is currently the sire of nearly 50 stakes horses, including Kentucky Derby winning champion I’ll Have Another and current high-class 3yo filly Princess Calla.
