Ridgemont’s star stallion Rafeef continues to make waves around the country.
The son of Redoute’s Choice was at it again on Friday when Rafeef supplied three winners on Fairview’s nine race card.
Rafeef’s first success on Friday came when his two-year-old daughter Rock Me Mama won the Racing Today Maiden Plate (F and M ) (1400m).
Under Richard Fourie, the Alan Greeff trained filly got up in the shadow of the post to win by a head.
Bred by Narrow Creek Stud, Rock Me Mama was the 16th two-year-old winner for her sire in 2025-2026.
Owned by Peter Moor, Rock Me Mama is out of the Silvano mare Sherry. Friday’s winner was a R400 000 buy from the 2025 National Yearling Sale.
Rafeef struck again on Friday when his son Black Egret won the www.tab4racing.com Middle Stakes (1200m).
Trained by Juan Nel, six-year-old Black Egret, under Kyle Strydom, came with a late rattle to get up and win by a length and a quarter.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Black Egret (bred on the same cross as Rock Me Mama) is owned by Hollywood Racing.
The Rafeef gelding has won six of 39 starts, with Black Egret, out of the Silvano mare Water Bird, having banked more than R600 000 in stakes.
Rafeef also captured Friday’s feature race, with his daughter Heliotrope victorious in Friday’s Wedgewood Handicap (2200m).
The Dean Smith trained five-year-old was given a strong ride by Craig Zackey, with Zackey keeping his mount going in the closing stages to win by three-parts of a length.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Heliotrope races for Greenacres Trust and David and the Estate Of The Late Sandy Hepburn-Brown.
Out of the Dalakhani mare Wisdom Stone, Heliotrope has won four of 28 starts, with the mare victorious in two of her last three starts.
